First of all, a remote control is a device for controlling other devices
at a distance or from a remote location. There are many different types of
remotes, but we'll focus on those that are used directly to control light (LED
strips, luminaires and auxiliary accessories).
Infrared (IR) remote control - uses infrared rays to transmit signals to
the device. These remotes use an outdated signal transmission system. They
function only in the direct line of sight of the device "receiving"
the signal, which may cause some inconvenience when using them.
Radio frequency (RF) remote control - uses radio waves to transmit
signals to the device. Such remotes are used to control devices in case of
remote control and do not require direct pointing at the signal receiver. Such
remotes are the most popular among users due to their advanced functionality
and affordable price.
Bluetooth remote control (BT) - uses Bluetooth signal transmission
technology and may have special functionality for controlling devices. This is
a special way of controlling devices that can be supported by mobile phones,
computers, tablets and other devices. Such remotes are not very common, and the
range of signal transmission is limited (compared to RF remotes), although they
do not require direct pointing at the "receiver" of the signal.
If we take a closer look at RF remotes, we can distinguish between
remotes for controlling single-colour, two-colour, and multi-colour LED strips.
In addition, such remotes can be 1-zone, 4-zone, 8-zone and multi-zone.
According to the method of entering information for signal transmission,
RF remotes are divided into push-button, touch and touch-button remotes that
combine the functionality of the first two types of remotes.
In addition, such remotes can be handheld (they have a standard familiar
shape) and wall-mounted (they are fixed permanently and look like wall light
switches).
